MTS to equip all Moscow metro wagons with 3G stations by Apr 2017
MOSCOW, May 25 (PRIME) -- MTS, one of the country’s leading mobile operators, and MaximaTelecom, a Wi-Fi operator of the Moscow metro, have signed a strategic agreement to equip every metro wagon with 3G femtocells by the end of March 2017, MTS said late Tuesday in a statement.
“The connection speed will be sufficient to allow users to use the mobile Internet fully, chat in social networks and messengers even during a rush hour traffic load,” the statement read.
Femtocells are small base stations, which MTS will use to provide subscribers with voice connection, SMS and the mobile Internet straight in metro wagons.
“At present, more than half of MTS subscribers in Moscow use smartphones and double the volume of consumed traffic every year. MTS bets on the development of 3G networks in metro tunnels, because this technology is the most widely spread among our subscribers: it’s supported by 100% of smartphones,” Igor Yegorov, director of the operator’s Moscow Region unit, said.
MTS offers voice connection services at all stations of the capital’s metro.
